Fear of occurrence of undesirable events in future and grief upon the unpleasant events happened in the past are common phenomena in our lives. FEAR is highly correlated with ANXIETY; GRIEF is highly correlated with DEPRESSION. Some measures suggested in the Quran to dispel fear and grief, are given in the following:

1. BELIEF (ایمان)

 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالنَّصَارَىٰ وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Surely, those who (profess to have) believed (in Islam), and those who became Jews, the Christians and the Sabians, whosoever (of these truly) believes in Allah and the Last Day and acts righteously shall have their reward with their Sustainer, and they shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 62]

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالصَّابِئُونَ وَالنَّصَارَىٰ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Surely, those who (profess to have) believed (in Islam), the Jews, the Sabians and the Christians, whosoever (of these truly) believe in Allah and the Last Day and act righteously shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 5: Verse 69]

2. SUBMISSION TO ALLAH’S WILL (اِسلام)

 بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Yes, indeed! whoever submits himself entirely to Allah and he is the doer of good, he shall have his reward from his Sustainer and (such people) shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 112]

3. FOLLOWING ALLAH’S GUIDANCE (اِتباعِ الہدایت)

 فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

So who follow My Guidance, they shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 38]

4. DOING RIGHTEOUS DEEDS(اعمالِ صالحہ)

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالنَّصَارَىٰ وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Surely, those who (profess to have) believed (in Islam), and those who became Jews, the Christians and the Sabians, whosoever (of these truly) believes in Allah and the Last Day and acts righteously shall have their reward with their Sustainer, and they shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 62]

 [Al-Quran Surah 5: Verse 69]

5. DOING GOOD TO OTHERS (اِحسان)

بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Yes, indeed! whoever submits himself entirely to Allah and he is the doer of good, he shall have his reward from his Sustainer and (such people) shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 112]

6. PERFORMING CHARITABLE ACTS (اِنفاق)

الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ لَا يُتْبِعُونَ مَا أَنفَقُوا مَنًّا وَلَا أَذًى لَّهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah, and then do not follow up their spending with reminders of their generosity or by hurting (the feelings of the recipient), their reward is with their Sustainer, and they shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 262]

الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُم بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Those who spend (in the way of Allah for the welfare of humanity) by night and day, privately or publicly, their reward is with their Sustainer, and they shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 274]

7. ESTABILISHING SALAT AND PROVIDING ZAKAT (الصلاۃ و الزکوۃ)

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Surely those who believe and perform good deeds and establish Salat and provide Zakat shall have their reward from their Sustainer and shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 277]

8. REFORMING ONE’S BEHAVIOUR (اِصلاح)

وَمَا نُرْسِلُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ فَمَنْ آمَنَ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

And We send [Our] message-bearers only as heralds of glad tidings and as warners, So those who believe and reform (their behavior), shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any or grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 6: Verse 48]

يَا بَنِي آدَمَ إِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِي فَمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

O Children of Adam! If Messengers come to you from among yourselves who relate to you My Revelations, then who guard themselves (against violating My guidance therein) and reform (their behaviour), shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 7: Verse 35]

9. GUARDING ONESELF AGAINST VIOLATING ALLAH’S GUIDANCE (تقوی)

يَا بَنِي آدَمَ إِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِي فَمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

O Children of Adam! If Messengers come to you from among yourselves who relate to you My Revelations, then who guard themselves (against violating My guidance therein) and reform (their behaviour), shall have no fear, nor shall they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 7: Verse 35]

أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ

Behold! Surely, the intimate followers of Allah will not have any fear, nor will they suffer from any grief. (They) are the people who believe and guard themselves (against violating Allah’s Commands).

 [Al-Quran Surah 10: Verse 62-63]

10. BEING INTIMATE FOLLOWER OF ALLAH

أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ

Behold! Surely, the intimate followers of Allah will not have any fear, nor will they suffer from any grief. (They) are the people who believe and guard themselves (against violating Allah’s Commands).

 [Al-Quran Surah 10: Verse 62-63]

11. BEING STEADFAST ON THE PROCLAMATION THAT ALLAH IS OUR SUSTAINER 

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Surely those who proclaimed: ‘Our Sustainer is Allah,’ then remained steadfast, will not have any fear, nor will they suffer from any grief.

 [Al-Quran Surah 46: Verse 13]
