- Ihsan – Treat your parents kindly and behave with them in a nice and comely manner. [Al-Quran Surah 2: verse 83; Surah 4: verse 36; Surah 6: verse 151; Surah 17: verse 23; Surah 46: verse 15]
- Infaq – Spend out of your wealth for the welfare and wellbeing of your parents. [Al-Quran Surah 2: verse 215]
- Bequest (Al-wasiya) – Make a bequest for your parents from your wealth, in case you may die earlier. [Al-Quran Surah 2: verse 180]
- Istighfar – Pray for their protection in this world and the hereafter [Al-Quran Surah 14: verse 41; Surah 71: verse 28]
- Do not say to them Uff (i.e. any word of disrespect, dislike, contempt or disgust), especially when they become old [Al-Quran Surah 17: verse 23]
- Do not repel or reproach them, especially when they become old [Al-Quran Surah 17: verse 23]
- Never shout at them but address them in terms of honour and speak to them in a respectful manner, especially when they become old [Al-Quran Surah 17: verse 23]
- Lower to them the wings of humility out of compassion [Al-Quran Surah 17:verse 24]
- Be dutiful, gentle and kind to them and do not be arrogant or rebellious [Al-Quran Surah 19: verse 14; Surah 19: verse 32]. However, do not obey them if they attempt to make you associate partners with Allah [29: verse 8; Surah 31: verse 15].
- Be grateful to them [Al-Quran Surah 31: verse 14]
- Give them company in the worldly affairs with appropriate courtesy and kindness [Al-Quran Surah 31: verse 15]
