Say, [O Muhammad], “Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allah once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.”
[Al-Quran Surah 40: Verse 66]

The bedouins say, “We have believed.” Say, “You have not [yet] believed; but say [instead], ‘We have submitted,’ and the faith has not yet entered your hearts. And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not deprive you from your deeds of anything. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
[Al-Quran Surah 49: Verse 14]

They consider it a favor to you that they have submitted (or accepted Islam). Say, “Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you are truthful.”
[Al-Quran Surah 49: Verse 17]

And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are those of deviate from the right course. And whoever has become Muslim – those have sought out the right course.
[Al-Quran Surah 72: Verse 14]

THE VERBAL NOUN ‘ISLAAM’
The verbal noun islaam (اِسلام) [from the verb form IV (aslama)(اَسلَمَ)] , means, ‘submission’ (i.e. yielding to the law, command, power or control of an authority); resignation; surrender; accepting someone’s sovereignty and authority.
As a Proper Noun, the word Al-Islaam refers to ‘Submission to Allah’s Will, Authority, Laws and Commands’.

Surely, the (true) Way of life in the sight of Allah, is Al-Islam, (i.e. the Submission) (to His Authority, Will, Laws & Commands)
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 19]

And whoever seeks other than Al-Islam as a way of life – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 85]

This day I have perfected for you your way of life and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Al-Islam as a way of life.
[Al-Quran Surah 5: Verse 3]

So, whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He makes his heart&mind wide open for Al-Islam
[Al-Quran Surah 6: Verse 125]

So is one whose heart&mind Allah has expanded to [accept] Al-Islam and he is upon a light from his Lord [like one whose heart rejects it]? Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error.
[Al-Quran Surah 39: Verse 22]

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah untruth while he is being invited to Al-Islam. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
[Al-Quran Surah 61: Verse 7]

They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam
[Al-Quran Surah 9: Verse 74]

They consider it a favor to you that they have submitted (or accepted Islam). Say, “Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you should be truthful.”
[Al-Quran Surah 49: Verse 17]

THE WORD ‘MUSLIM’
The word ‘Muslim’ (مُسلِم) is active participle for the verb form IV (aslama)(اَسلَمَ), its dual is muslimaini, and plural forms are muslimoon and muslimeen.
Those who submit, surrender or yield are called muslimoon (مُسلمون) or muslimeen (مُسلمین) (singular: muslim) (مُسْلِم).
aslama lillahi (اَسلَمَ لِلّہِ) means to declare oneself committed to the Will, Laws and Commands of God.
The Quran mentions an account of a letter of King Solomon to the Queen of Sheba, in which the King says to the Queen to come to him in submission and do not rise up against him.

“Do not rise up against me, but come to me in submission.”´
[Al-Quran Surah 27: Verse 31]

[Solomon] said, “O assembly [of nobles], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?”
[Al-Quran Surah 27: Verse 38]

When the Queen arrived, she was asked: “Is your throne like this one?” She said: “It seems as if it is the same. We had already come to know this and we had submitted ourselves.” What prevented her (from accepting the True Faith) was her worshipping deities other than Allah, for she belonged to an unbelieving people. She was told: “Enter the palace.” But when she saw it, she thought it was a pool of water and she bared both her calves (to enter into it). Solomon said: “This is a slippery floor of crystal.” Thereupon she cried out: “My Lord, I have been inflicting much wrong on myself. Now I submit myself with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of the whole Universe.”
[Al-Quran Surah 27: Verse 42-44]

In the Quran, the word Al-Muslimeen has been used in contrast to Al-Mujrimeen.

“Shall We, then, treat Al-Muslimeen like Al-Mujrimeen?”
[Al-Quran Surah 68: Verse 35]

A Mujrim, is the one who commits an act of disobedience or violates the Law or wrongfully exploits a situation or steals the fruit of others’ labour.

In Surah 72: Verse 14, the word Al-Muslimoon has been used in contrast to Al-Qasitoon. Al-Qasitoon are those who deviate from the right course (At-Tareeqah); who act unjustly, injuriously, wrongfully or tyrannically. But Al-Muslimoon are those who take an unwavering stand on the Right Course prescribed by the Almighty.

“And among us are Al-Muslimoon, and among us are Al-Qasitoon. And whoever has become Muslim – it is they who have sought out the right course.”
[Al-Quran Surah 72: Verse 14]

The verb form ‘aslamoo’ (اَسلمُو) has been used in contrast with the verb form ‘tawallow’ (تَوَلَّو) which means ‘to turn away; to wander off; or to go one’s own way.

“And, if they submit (to Allah’s Command), then they have truly achieved guidance. But if they turn away, your responsibility is only to deliver (the command).“
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 20]

And [remember] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], “Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.
[Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 127-128]

Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]. And he was not of the polytheists.
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 67]

When his Lord said to him, “Submit”, he said “I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds.” And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], “O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims.”
Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They said, “We will worship/serve/submissively obey your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac – one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”
[Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 131-133]

Say, [O believers], “We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”
[Al-Quran Surah 2: Verse 136]

Say: ‘We believe in Allah and what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and to Issac and Jacob and his descendents, and the teachings which Allah gave to Moses and Jesus and to other Prophets. We make no distinction between any of them and to Him do we submit. And whoever seeks other than Al-Islam as a way of life – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 84-85]

But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, “Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allah?” The disciples said, “We are supporters for Allah. We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 52]

Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you – that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah.” But if they turn away, then say, “Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].”
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 64]

It does not befit a man that Allah should grant him His Book and sound judgement and prophet-hood, and thereafter he should say to men: ‘Become servants to me apart from Allah.’ He would rather say: ‘Become dedicated men of Allah, in accord with the dictates of the Book you have been teaching and studying.’ He will never enjoin you to take the angels or Prophets for your lords. Will he enjoin upon you unbelief when you have become Muslims?
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 79-80]

O you who have become believers! Be conscious of Allah with all the consciousness that is due to Him, and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]…
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided (into sects).
[Al-Quran Surah 3: Verse 102-103]

And [remember] when I inspired to the disciples, “Believe in Me and in My messenger [Jesus].” They said, “We have believed, so bear witness that indeed we are Muslims [in submission to Allah].”
[Al-Quran Surah 5: Verse 111]

In the story of Pharaoh’s Magicians, the Quran says:

And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].”
[Al-Quran Surah 7: Verse 126]

And Moses said, “O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 10: Verse 84]

And if they do not respond to you – then know that the Qur’an was revealed with the knowledge of Allah and that there is no deity except Him. Then, would you [not] be Muslims?
[Al-Quran Surah 11: Verse 14]

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
[Al-Quran Surah 15: Verse 2]

Joseph’s prayer in the Quran:

My Lord, You have given me [something] of sovereignty and taught me of the interpretation of dreams. Creator of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous.”
[Al-Quran Surah 12: Verse 101]

Say, “It is only revealed to me that your god is but one God; so will you be Muslims [in submission to Him]?”
[Al-Quran Surah 21: Verse 108]

And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [submitting to Allah].
[Al-Quran Surah 27: Verse 81]

And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah].
[Al-Quran Surah 30: Verse 53]

Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it – they are believers in it.
And when it is recited to them, they say, “We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [submitting to Allah].”
[Al-Quran Surah 28: Verse 52-53]

And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, “We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”
[Al-Quran Surah 29: Verse 46]

[You] who believed in Our verses and were Muslims.
Enter Paradise, you and your kinds, delighted.”
[Al-Quran Surah 43: Verse 69-70]

Say, “Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 6: Verse 162-163]

In the story of the Prophet Noah, the Quran says:

And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, “O my people, if my residence and my reminding of the signs of Allah has become burdensome upon you – then I have relied upon Allah. So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates. Then let not your plan be obscure to you. Then carry it out upon me and do not give me respite.
And if you turn away [from my advice] then no payment have I asked of you. My reward is only from Allah, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 10: Verse 71-72]

In the Story of the Pharaoh, the Quran says:

And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, “I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 10: Verse 90]

And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.
[Al-Quran Surah 16: Verse 89]

Say, [O Muhammad], “The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 16: Verse 102]

Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.
[Al-Quran Surah 33: Verse 35]

And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 41: Verse 33]

And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.”
[Al-Quran Surah 46: Verse 15]

And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. He (Allah) named you “Muslims” before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people…
[Al-Quran Surah 22: Verse 78]

[Say, O Muhammad], “I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims [those who submit to Allah]
[Al-Quran Surah 27: Verse 91]

Say, [O Muhammad], “Indeed, I have been commanded to serve Allah, [being] sincere to Him in obedience.
And I have been commanded to be the first [among you] of the Muslims.”
Say, “Allah [alone] do I serve, sincere to Him in my obedience,
So worship whatever you will, besides Him. Say, “Indeed, the losers are the ones who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, that is the manifest loss.”
[Al-Quran Surah 39: Verse 11-14]
