Key Aspects of Justice

The following four key aspects of justice can be gleaned from the Quran:

-Giving people their due rights without any loss or diminution or deficiency or defect [1][2].
-Putting things or people at their proper and rightful places and positions [3].
-Deciding affairs with impartiality, unbiasedness, equity, fairness and equal treatment without any inclination to anyone in preference to another [4].
-Creating balance, harmony and proportion [5].



[1] In Surah 55: Verse 9, the Arabic word ‘Qist’ (قِسط) has been used in contrast to ‘Khusran’ (خسران), which means loss or diminution

[2] In Surah 11: Verse 85, the Arabic word ‘Qist’ (قِسط) has been used in contrast to ‘Bukhs (بخس), which means deficiency or defect

[3] In Surah 10: Verse 47, 54 and Surah 21: Verse 47, the Arabic word ‘Qist’ (قِسط) has been used in contrast to ‘Zulm’ (ظلم), which means putting a thing at a wrong place or deviating from proper time and place.

[4] In Surah 4: Verse 129, the Arabic word ‘Adl’ (عدل) has been used in contrast to ‘mail’ (میل) which means inclination or leaning to one side. ‘Adl’ (عدل) as ‘equal’ or ‘equivalent’ has also been used in Surah 5: Verse 95; Surah 6: Verse 1; Surah 6: Verse 150; Surah 27: Verse 60
